CheapAir.com Dispels Myths about the ‘Best Day’ to Book Airline Tickets

Having examined 415 million airline fares, CheapAir.com found out that a single day of the week for booking the cheapest airline tickets simply doesn't exist. Dispelling popular myths that on Tuesdays or Sundays airfare is cheaper, CheapAir states that a specific day of the week or time of day doesn't guarantee the best deal on air travel.

CheapAir researched this issue after The Wall Street Journal revealed the ticket sales data collected by the Airlines Reporting Corporation that proved that Sunday is the best day to buy airline tickets. But this research only covered tickets purchased, and didn't take into account the fact that corporate travelers usually book last minute, pay higher fares and purchase tickets on work days. This must have influenced the data and caused Sundays to seam the cheapest day to buy flights.

CheapAir applied another approach and examined all fares that were available on domestic flights since the beginning of 2014 – a total of 415 million airfares. It turned out that the differences between days of the week were very slight. The cheapest days to buy, Wednesday and Thursday, were cheaper than the most expensive days, Saturday and Sunday, by just $3.

According to Jeff Klee, CEO of CheapAir, what really matters when purchasing an airline ticket is how far in advance you book it. He recommends snatching a great fare right away, no matter whether it's on Monday, Tuesday or Sunday. As rates can change quickly, it's better to take advantage of cheap airline tickets when you spot them rather than lament about it later.

CheapAir states that the cheapest airline tickets can be purchased an average of 54 days before the flight, and the prime booking window ranges from 29 to 104 days. But at the same time there are many factors like the destination, travel date and other variables that can make the prime booking window shift. The best thing customers can do is to check for fares early and often. When you get to know the market on your travel dates well you can quickly spot good and bad deals.

Founded in 1989 by its current CEO Jeff Klee, CheapAir has helped more than three million travelers buy plane tickets with confidence. Headquartered in Calabasas, CA, CheapAir owes much of its success to a team of 50 travel experts who help customers find great deals on air fare. CheapAir features their proprietary airfare shopping engine and uses a patented algorithm to search the web for the lowest prices on the planet.
